Bengali means thirteen parbans in twelve months, and the special part of parban is food. Can you imagine that four Bengalis gathered and did not discuss about food? Maa Durga is coming to our house with a fair of fun and happiness,We all will be there to share happiness with each other. In the first evening of our celebration, "Team Anandamela" will be there to serve food to all of you to ensure no one return empty stomach. There will be plenty of items to choose from, from the starter to the dessert from local or foreign menu.
Any Bengali is incomplete without some adda (hangout) and music. Adda and music are integral parts of the Bengali lifestyle which complements each other and in the process enriches the experience, the Bengali life, vitality or sustenance. Adda and music are indispensable elements, unfortunately with our quotidian materialistic pursuits, such are now perceived as dying practices. On this Durga Puja Panchami, 8 pm onwards awaits such a heart-warming adda (nostalgic stories and a few fond memories) and some soulful emotive music too, to cater to all ages, presented by the members of SMCA.
"Cross Connection" play written by Jyotishman Chattopadhyay, revolves around six folks who try to discover their perfect love matches. Things repeatedly go wrong till they get resolved in the last scene. There is romance, there is cynicism, ambition and love. Above all there is comedy without which no love story is complete. This is a love story where one "collides" with other to get to their ultimate partners.
Pure adaptation of Birendra Krishna Bhadro’s mahalaya, accompanied by live dance as an addition, to few of the songs. The program ends with chandi patt, with our achariya Banodeb Bhattachariya, performing adibash reverberated with the sounds of dhak and kashor ghonta.
Durga puja is a Hindu festival in which prayers are offered to goddess Durga. The festival lasts nine-days long, where each day signifies something special. Durga puja indirectly translates to happiness for all the Bengalis around the world. People exhibit different ways of having fun during the puja days. Some enjoy experimenting with clothing and fashion, some enjoy by eating lots of good food and for some, bringing out their inner talent is the best way to have fun. All in all, the excitement among the masses is unreal.

It's an act which bonds all the elements of life eternally and the word lasts forever... larger than life and beyond.
Freedom is very precious and a strong requirement for quality living. Shono Oi Ahobhan is a presentation of the freedom movement of India with a special focus of the contribution of the sons and daughters of Bengal. Even to this day the sacrifices and leadership of Netaji, Khudiram, Binoy, Badal, Dinesh and others continue to inspire us. Let us see this patriotic spirit in our own SMCA members both young and old. In doing so, we hope to touch the hearts and minds of each one present here.
Bapi lahiri, the god of versatile music, has led the Bollywood's music from the beats of disco, to the soulful soothing tunes of melodies. The programme, is thus trying to replicate those beautiful 30 years, into an evening, with the financial help of SMCA. The performers in this breathtaking memorial show of Bapi Lahiri are big fans and followers of Lahiri, and dedicated members of South Madras Cultural Association. Let the beautiful 30 years of Bapi Da, flow into today's generations for one beautiful evening.
